Prayer has long been considered a powerful tool for combating depression and anxiety. A new study published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine confirms that prayer can be an effective treatment for these conditions. Researchers analyzed data from 26 studies involving over 17,000 patients and found that those who prayed experienced significant reductions in depression and anxiety levels.

Did you know that there are saints who are considered patrons of mental illness? That's right! And, as it turns out, turning to these saints for help and support can be a significant source of comfort and hope for those who suffer from emotional or mental disturbances. In this blog post, we'll take a look at some of these saints, as well as intercessory prayers that may offer solace and assistance to those who struggle with mental illness.
One of the most well-known saints associated with mental illness is St. Dymphna. According to legend, St. Dymphna was a beautiful young woman who lived in the seventh century. When her mother died, her father - who was grieving deeply - began to look at Dymphna with unnatural desire. Fearing for her safety, Dymphna fled her home and eventually settled in Geel, Belgium.
It is said that St. Dymphna had the gift of healing those who suffered from mental illness, and that she often prayed for those who were afflicted with depression, anxiety, and other emotional disorders. She has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially as someone to turn too when experiencing worry or fearfulness; she can be petitioned with help on an array of issues including daily stressors like job loss (or any other major event), more serious anxiety diseases such as PTSD - even if you're just feeling stressed out all day long!ย
Prayer to St. Dymphna:
Good Saint Dymphna, great wonder-worker in every affliction of mind and body, I humbly implore your powerful intercession with Jesus through Mary, the Health of the Sick, in my present need. (Mention it.) Saint Dymphna, martyr of purity, patroness of those who suffer with nervous and mental afflictions, beloved child of Jesus and Mary, pray to Them for me and obtain my request.
(Pray one Our Father, one Hail Mary and one Glory Be.)
Saint Dymphna, Virgin and Martyr, pray for us.

St. Dynmphna I have asked for your intercession prayer miracle; Iโm healing daily. I am diagnosed paranoid schitzophrenic and yes I have been guided by my guardian angel and my confirmation St. Agnes through others working through Godโs people in my process of choosing the right dosage and medications. I am also dealing with addiction to meth and went through rehab and seeking health and safety and recovery using na meetings to try to stay clean but I relapse sometimes. My psychiatrist and therapist know the truth about my struggle and Iโm fighting to be clean and chemically balanced and energized and physically slender and fit and not backsliding or using meth daily. I do have the opportunity available to me to be re-evaluated by psychiatrists to go on psych meds permanently and that would be not good for me because the medication is considered controlled substances and it will label me and probably I will not have authority over myself and I want to be confident and normal and not belong to the evil of this world or devil. I belong to believe in the power of almighty God the Almighty father in my situations in life. Iโm your daughter on earth waiting heavenly father for your blessing poured out on my physical healing, mental healing, emotional healing. Thank you. I wait patiently.
